How to Draw a Mushroom!

✏️ Supplies You’ll Need:

• Pencil (for sketching)

• Eraser

• Pen or marker (for outlining)

• Your favorite coloring tools—colored pencils, markers, watercolors, or digital art!

• (I used my iPad for this tutorial, but feel free to use whatever medium brings you joy!)

Step-by-Step Mushroom Drawing Tutorial

Step 1: Start with a horizontal oval

This will form the base for the underside of your mushroom cap.

Step 2: Add a dome on top

Draw a half-circle or dome shape resting on the oval. This is the mushroom cap.

Step 3: Draw the stem

Sketch a thick, curved stem underneath the cap. Let it be a little wider at the base for a natural feel.

Step 4: Erase the hidden line

Gently erase the part of the oval that’s behind the stem so it looks more three-dimensional.

Step 5: Add gill guidelines

Draw three evenly spaced lines from the top of the stem to the edge of the oval (like slicing a pizza!). These will become the gills of your mushroom.

Step 6: Fill in more gills

Add additional lines between your first three to create that lovely textured undercap. Don’t stress about perfection—nature isn’t perfect either!

Step 7: Add fun details

Draw little circles or ovals on the cap to mimic the spots mushrooms often have. You can even add a smiley face if you want a cute woodland vibe!

Step 8: Color your mushroom!

Let your creativity bloom here—mushrooms come in all colors, shapes, and sizes! Red with white dots, soft browns, magical purples.... Whatever you like!
